A grey squirrel at the edge of a wood seemed quite upset and repeated called for about 5 minutes. I recorded the end of its calling. The recorder's rear mics, featured in this file, are facing away from the street into the sidewalk at a right angle at a height of approx. 60 cm. Traffic is passing in both directions, about 1 min. This is a recording i made using my tascam dr-40 field recorder. Used the xy pattern, no post-processing, just some edits to cut off unwanted noise, wind puffs and stuff. There's no significant background roomtone (no traffic, fridge hum or voices), just the exagerated cutlery movements, glasses and cups clingings, water sink, cabinets, fridge door and stuff. The recording starts with gentle rain and slow thunder rolling across the sky. The thunder is predominantly in the first half of the recording. The rain increases in intensity in the second half, peaking about three-quarters of the way through. Recorded on a sheltered, outdoor stairway, in a suburban location in south-eastern england, in august 2013; using a zoom h2n recorder set on mid-side stereo, at a 120 degree spread. The original recording was heavily edited, to remove traffic, trains, planes and parakeets(!). Some light, occasional, background traffic noise remains, however.

Night-time wide angle stereo recording of manhattan, as heard from across the east river, the recorder was kindly allowed access to the veranda of the riverview restaurant & lounge in long island city and is facing the manhattan skyline. Some noises of the restaurant can be heard in the background, very subdued, the quiet lapping of the east river can be heard in the foreground, and manhattan bustle and traffic on the fdr drive is in the wide range.
